With two runners placing in the top 10 at the Tabor College Invitational cross country meet, the Bluejay women’s team placed third out of 14 schools that visited Marion Reservoir’s Cottonwood Point on Saturday.

Liz Kleinsasser finished fifth in 19 minutes, 26 seconds and Heidi Schmidt finished eighth only 15 seconds later.

“It’s always good to compete on the home course,” coach Karol Hunt said. “Familiarity is a bonus and we don’t have to travel.”

Amber Wiens (33rd, 20:49) finished third for Tabor in her first race since being sidelined by a knee injury last spring.

“It’s positive to have Amber back,” Hunt said. “Her experience and senior leadership are invaluable.”

Jera Teselle (37th, 20:58) placed fourth and ran 2:21 faster than her previous personal best.

“Her freshman year was hampered by injuries,” Hunt said. “Jera is starting to run competitively, which is a big boost to the team.”

Four Bluejays finished with in a 13-second span: Leah Kopper (48th, 21:29), Carrie Schroeder (49th, 21:31), Ashley Schmidt (53rd, 21:41) and Shelby Miller (54th, 21:42).

Tessa Siebert (70th, 22:28) and Elissa Richert (82nd, 24:01) both set new personal records.

Tasheena Ruzinsky (77th, 23:15) also ran with the women’s team.

Zac Remboldt led the men’s team, placing 29th in 29:00.

Dan Sigley (34th, 29:12) and Justin Ball (38th, 29:25) finished on his heels.

“Zac continues to pace the men,” Hunt said. “His time was the quickest of the season.

Sigley’s time is the second-fastest posted by the men thus far, and Ball beat his previous best by 16 seconds.

“Dan got off to a slow start this season, but is starting to get his competitiveness back,” Hunt said.

Caleb Schroeder (54th, 30:02) was the fourth Bluejay to finish. Ric Johnson (78th, 31:30) placed fifth.

Adam McPeck (82nd, 31:42), Michael Adamyk (95th, 34:11) and Warren McKamey (104th, 38:38) all set personal records.

“We are progressing well with our training,” Hunt said.

Coming—The Bluejays have an open date this week. Their next race slated for Saturday, Oct. 6, at McPherson Country Club, with the women running at 10 a.m. and the men to follow at 10:45.
