The Marion High School cross country team ran at Peabody last Thursday. Three girls medaled and three others set personal best times in the varsity race.
Camille Christensen turned in the top time for the Warriors, finishing 10th in 17 minutes, 31 seconds. Amanda Richmond finished 12th in 17:34 and Jaclyn DeForest was 20th in 18:01.
Brooke Johnson (22nd, 18:03), Tacy Taylor (15th, 18:15), Bridgett Lundy (34th, 19:10) and Lucy Collett (43rd, 20:50) rounded out the top seven.
Johnson, Lundy and Collett all set personal bests, as did JV runners Danae Edwards and Shayla Rahe.
As a team, Marion placed third in a field of six behind Bennington and Remington.
“I was really pleased with a third place finish at this meet,” coach Bethany Carlson said.
Bennington is ranked second in Class 2A and Remington is ranked third in 3A.
For the boys, Peabody-Burns placed first with Hesston second and Marion third among six teams.
“We knew going in that Peabody and Hesston would be our competition,” Carlson said. “As a varsity team, we have several newcomers that are still learning how to run a 3.1-mile race, so I’m looking for our team to continue getting stronger.”
Ryan Jones led the Warrior boys with a personal-best time of 18:40 and finished second.
Louis Holt (18:57) finished fifth and medaled for Marion.
Elliot Hett (24th, 20:11), Isaac Hett (26th, 20:30) and Brady Hudson (27th, 20:32) all ran personal best times.
Brandon Meierhoff (42nd, 21:24) and Marshall Ragland (54th, 22:51) also ran the varsity race.
Coming—Marion hosts its home meet Thursday starting at 4:30 p.m. at the Marion County Lake.
