The Harvey County Historical Museum and Archives is hosting an historic home tour from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23.

The home on tour is at 715 W. Broadway, Newton, and is owned by Pat and Pam Duffy. Tickets are $6 per person or $5 for members of the Harvey County Historical Museum.

Tickets are available at the museum at 203 N. Main, Newton, or by calling 316-283-2221. On the day of the tour, tickets will not be available for purchase at the home, but will be available at the museum beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Refreshments will be served on the back lawn.

The Italianate-style home was originally constructed for Newton businessman Alan Moore in the 1880s. Moore operated a grocery store and the Gayety Livery Stables and was elected commissioner for the 2nd District in 1888 and 1891.

The Duffys bought the home in 2002, becoming the eighth owners. The home was previously owned by Lloyd and Jackie Smith.

The Duffys have focused on restoring the house to its 1880s charm. Efforts have included refinishing all interior woodwork and original yellow pine flooring and installing tin ceilings and period-correct wallpaper.
