After posting a 10-20 record last season, the Peabody-Burns High School volleyball team has six players returning with varsity experience.
Three of those players are seniors: middle hitter Becky Morris (5 feet 6 inches), outside hitter Jessica Gillet (5-6) and outside hitter Tabitha O’Neal (5-7).
Morris earned an honorable mention from the Heart of America League last season and will be integral to the team’s success.
“She leads the way and will be relied upon heavily to lead the attacking duties,” coach Darren Schroeder said.
Junior Bayleigh Clark (5-2) is the team’s setter. Sophomores Danielle Savage (5-9) and Julie Wedel (5-8) both bring a measure of varsity experience to the table.
“Having a strong defensive group and consistent passing attack will be very important to this group because of a lack of height,” Schroeder said. “But if we play solid defense and pass and serve consistently, we should be able to compete throughout the season.”
PBHS hosted its varsity tournament Aug. 25, but results were not available at press time.
The Warriors will be at home at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, for a quadrangular that includes Sedgwick, Moundridge and Inman.
