With a new head coach taking the helm, the Tabor College soccer teams slipped to the bottom of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference preseason coaches polls.
The Bluejay men finished sixth with a conference record of 4-5 in 2006 but dropped to ninth place in the initial ranking. The slide put the team just ahead of a Bethany College squad that went 0-9 last season.
On the women’s side, Tabor was picked in last place after finishing in a tie for ninth place with the 1-8 Bethel Threshers.
“I was surprised the coaches picked us that low, especially on the men’s side,” first-year coach Grant Brubacher said. “But I think that’s more of a reflection on the coaching change than the talent level of the team.”
“I’ve talked to a couple of the guys on the team about it, and they seem pretty surprised about it, too,” he added.
“I think it will help to motivate the team, to prove that we are better than where we were picked.”
