Two in-state athletes have signed letters to run for Tabor College this next year.

Brock Fosnight is a 6-foot-3, 150-pound runner from Goddard High School who posted times of 54.6 seconds in the 400 meters and 2:10.5 in the 800. He also ran with 4x400 and 4x800m relay teams for the Ark Valley League Division II league champions in 2006.

“He will help us in the 400 meters and 800 meters,” said Dave Kroeker, head track coach. “He will also be a great asset to our campus.”

Justin Ball, Garnett, 6-1, 165-pounds, ran the 400, 800 and 1,600, as well as the 4x400 relay for Anderson County High School. During his junior year, he led the team in points scored. He finished third in the 1,600 at the Class 4A state track meet that year.

In 2007 Ball won the 800 at the league track meet and placed second at the state meet. Ball was named “Bulldog of the year” during his junior and senior years in track.

“I am excited about Justin being at Tabor, especially after his great run at the state meet in the 800 meters,” Kroeker said. “He will be a great addition to our men’s track team.

“He’s also the kind of person who will make a real positive impact on our campus,” he added.

Ball also will run cross country at Tabor. He ranks fifth on the ACHS Top 10 list with a personal best of 17:24. He competed in the Class 4A state cross-country meets in 2003 and 2004, finishing 10th in 2004.

“Justin will have an immediate impact in contributing to the cross country team,” coach Karol Hunt said. “His high school running experiences combined with his work ethic are the foundation for a successful college career.”

“He will be in the mix to run in the top five this fall,” she added.

Nick Smallwood, of Eaton, Colo., and Katie Chlumsky, of Wichita, have signed to play tennis at Tabor College this coming year.

“Nick will add another competitive attitude and great personality to the men’s team,” coach Michael Hagen said.

“His high school tennis accomplishments show that with some hard work, he will contribute to this team on an extremely high level.”

Smallwood played two seasons of No. 2 singles and one season of No. 1 singles at Eaton High School.

As a junior he earned all-conference honors.

Chlumsky brings personal match records of 13-3, 20-7, 20-10 and 19-9 in four seasons of competition at Maize High School.

“Katie’s signing is great news for our team and the Tabor community as well,” Hagen said.
