Parkside Homes Inc. is hosting a Summer Safety & Wellness Week June 11-15, followed by a Summer Safety & Wellness Fair on Saturday, June 16.

After focusing on weight loss, exercising and eating right for the past few months, Parkside residents and staff are learning that the “wellness” concept covers so much more.

Topics such as identity fraud awareness, wearing a scatbelt, eating breakfast, putting on sunscreen, handling grief and handling foods safely all affect one's wellness. Parkside wants the community to join them as they learn about these topics and more.

Nancy Pihl from the K-State Research and Extension Office will do a presentation on food safety from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Greenhaw Pharmacy will be doing $20 cholesterol and bone density checks from 8 a.m. to noon Thursday for those who call ahead at 947-2301 to sign-up.

Darlene Bartel will discuss Greensburg tomado disaster relief information from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.

All activities will take place in the large dining room in the administration building at Parkside Homes.

The week will wrap up with the fair from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Parkside Homes Courtyard.

Various county businesses will be on site offering information, handouts, freebies, and entertainment for all ages.

The Marion County Health Department will have a Kids' Safety Zone set up with games, seatbelt safety checks, Elmo and much more entertainment.

The adults will have the opportunity to learn information about safety and wellness issues they face on a daily basis.

Hot dogs and drinks will be provided from 11 a.m. to noon, along with the announcement of the prize drawing winners.

Participating businesses include Brown's Shoe Fit, Emprise Bank, the K-State Research and Extension Office, Marion County Health Department, the Corps of Engineers, Hillsboro Police Department, an Arbonne representative, Parkside Homes, Inc., Shoes for Crews, The Country Haven Inn, The Hardware Store, the American Cancer Society and Greenhaw Pharmacy.

Parkside Homes, Inc. asks that all visitors enter through the main entrance of the building.
