Douglas K. Huxman has accepted a contract from Unified School District 410 to be interim superintendent for the upcoming school year.
Officially, Huxman’s contract begins Aug. 1. He will succeed Gordon Mohn, who has accepted a special-education position in the McPherson school district.
Huxman is no stranger to Marion County. He served in the Marion school system from 1988 until 1998, first as elementary school principal and then middle school principal before working as superintendent from 1990-98.
While at Marion, Huxman helped coordinate a $4.5 million facilities-improvement project, including about $2 million at Marion Elementary and $2.5 million at the high school.
From there, he worked as elementary-school principal at USD 429 in Troy until 2002, when he became superintendent. In that role, Huxman helped implement an all-day-kindergarten program for the district.
“My style of leadership has always involved gathering as much information as possible from a variety of internal and external sources before making a decision,” he said.
Huxman graduated from Moundridge High school in 1965 and then Bethel College in 1970 with a degree in elementary and secondary music education.
In 1978 he earned a master of science degree in elementary and secondary school counseling from Emporia State.
In 1984 he received an educational specialist degree from Fort Hays State University in administration and then attained a doctorate in educational administration from Wichita State University in 1997.
