A new exhibit at the Menno­nite Heritage Museum in Goessel features wedding dresses. Eight dresses are displayed, the oldest worn in 1900 and the “newest” in 1956.

Sarah Schroeder wore her two-piece black wedding dress when she married Heinrich J. S. Schmidt in 1900. Their wedding photo is included in the book “Clothing and Textile Collec­tions in the United States” by Sally Queen and Vicki L. Berger.

Elisabeth Richert’s long-sleeved dress had tucks and lace and was worn Nov. 26, 1910, when she married Heinrich D. Epp.

Helena Duerksen’s dress, made of cashmere and wool, was stitched by Mrs. Daniel Unger, well-known seamstress from Hillsboro. It was worn twice, when she married Henry J. Warkentin on Oct. 27, 1911, and again in 1936 when they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Philip A. Wedel was married June 17, 1923, wearing a dress featuring a big lace bow in the front and short lace sleeves.

George G. Flaming and Sara Krause were married Aug. 28, 1929. She wore a knee-length low-waisted dress.

Elizabeth R. Funk’s dress had short sleeves and a bias-cut skirt. She married Adolph E. Schmidt on May 26, 1932. His three-piece wedding suit is also on display.

Dorothy Neufeld wore a satin dress when she married Edward A. Ediger on June 17, 1937.

Lydia Schroeder's wedding dress was worn April 15, 1956, when she married Bernard Kasper.

Also on display is the wedding suit Simon W. Schmidt wore when he and Linda Boese were married on Aug. 21, 1934.

A flower girl’s dress worn by Evelyn Schroeder Banman at her sister Alice Pankratz’s wedding is also on display.

These wedding dresses will be displayed through June.

The museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
