At the Class 3A state golf tournament hosted by Cheney on Monday night at the Cherry Oaks course, Hillsboro golfers posted a 328—the evening’s third best team score.

The top four from Marion finished with a 328, too.

Unfortunately for the Warriors and Trojans, the four-man team from Sabetha also turned in a 328 and claimed third place via tiebreaker.

That left Marion in fourth place and Hillsboro in fifth.

Collegiate claimed the team crown with a foursome of 318.

Marion trailed only the eventual champions following a 160 on the front nine, with Hillsboro and Trinity knotted at 164 and Sabetha at 163.

State champion Michael Allen’s 72 was the day’s best finish, and his score was enough to put Trinity Academy alone in second place at 327.

Marion’s Travis Hett paced the Warriors with a 75—the tournament’s second-best score.

Hillsboro’s Daniel Kunantaev led the Trojans to the clubhouse with a fourth-place 76, and Elliot Soyez finished in sixth at 77.

Marion’s Luke Gordon shot a 79 and finished eighth.

Hillsboro’s Justin Kent finished in a six-way tie for 12th place with a score of 81.

Keith Jones (86) and Jake Bredemeier (88) rounded out Marion’s top four. Chase Carlson shot 92 and Lindsey Hett shot 99.

Darren Enns capped quartet scoring for Hillsboro with a round of 94.

Daniel Dick and Zach Magnuson turned in scores of 98 and 105, respectively.
