The next stage of life probaly won't bring you peace and contentment if you haven't found it in this one.
This weekend marks another commencement cycle at our area high schools and at Tabor College. We pass on our best wishes to the seniors of these institutions, and congratulate them for what they have already accomplished.
While most of our graduates yearn to be free of class lectures, homework and exams, some of us watching from the sidelines wish we were back in what looks to us now as a relatively carefree life of inquiry and discovery compared to the daily grind of job, family and responsibility.
The truth is, both worlds have advantages and disadvantages, joys and frustrations. When it comes down to it, freedom and fulfillment are realities we create or negate for ourselves, in whatever lifestage we find ourselves. If graduates, post-graduates and pre-graduates need a word of wisdom, it might be this: You probably won’t find peace and contentment tomorrow if you can’t find it where you are today. —DR
