Robert Alkire

 

Robert Alkire, 75, retired employee of City of Florence maintenance department, died May 4 at Newton Medical Center.

The service was held May 8 at the Christian Church of Florence with Roger Scantlin officiating.

He was born Sept. 14, 1931, to Ambrose and Eva Coffman Alkire in Stella, Neb.

He is survived by two sons, William of Washington State and Kenny of Stillwater, Okla.; two daughters, Sheila Thouvenell of Marion and Elizabeth Crow of Stillwater; and eight grandchildren.

 

Aliene Anderson

 

Aliene F. Anderson, 84, retired secretary, died May 5 in Wichita.

The service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Zeiner Funeral Home in Florence with Larry Timm officiating. Burial is at Cedar Point Cemetery.

She was born April 20, 1923, to Dick and Susan (Conyers) Ubben in Cedar Point. She was married to Robert L. Anderson, who died in 2000.

She is survived by three sisters, Georgia Lalouette of Florence, Ruth Chance of Stuart, Iowa, and Rena Topham of Fredonia.

Memorials have been established with Cedar Point Community Church and Carriage Manor in Florence.

 

O.D. Schmidt

 

Ormond “O.D.” Schmidt, 84, farmer, died May 6 in McPherson.

Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Miller Funeral Home in Goessel.

The memorial service is at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at Goessel Mennonite Church with Chris Whitacre and Mike Hiebert officiating.

He was born May 20, 1922, to Karl and Helen (Schroeder) Schmidt in Goessel. On Sept. 5, 1947, he was married to Emma Ruth Huxman, who survives in McPherson.

He is also survived by two sons, Myron of Newton and Neil and Virginia of McPherson; a daughter, Ellen and Larry Gilbert of McPherson; a sister, Velora Krehbiel of Lakin; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with Camp Mennoscah, Capper Foundation and Hospice Care of Kansas.

 

Pearl Thompson

 

Pearl Ojeman Thompson, 93, died April 29 at St. Luke’s Living Center in Marion.

The service was held May 3 at Zeiner Funeral Home. Burial was in Marion Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 14, 1913, to Ernest and Ella (Sauer) Ojeman in Houston, Texas. She was married to R.C. “Dick” Thompson, who predeceased her.

She is survived by a son, R.C. “Rick” Thompson Jr. of Bandera, Texas; two daughters, Peggy and Leo Blackman of Marion and Joyce and Leon Cogburn of Roszanky, Texas; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with the St. Luke Foundation and Marion City Library.

 

Ray Waner

 

Ray Anthony Waner, 50, died April 23 in Nevada.

Services held April 28 at Saint Paul’s Catholic Church in Winnemucca, Nev., and May 2 in Florence. Burial was at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Florence.

He was born Jan. 29, 1957, to Ernest and Betty Waner in Hillsboro. In 1979, he was married to Ronda Moore, and they later divorced.

He is survived by three daughters, Lena Hernandez, Sheena Waner and Katrena Rogers, all of Winnemucca; two brothers, Ron of Winnemucca and Gene of Marion; three sisters, Kathy Clausing of Lawrence and Julie Peters and Janet Tremmel, both of Ulysses; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with Hospice Care of Winnemucca and Maxwell Wildlife Refuge of Canton.
