Isaac Leihy rocks and fires during the second game of Moanday's double-header against MHS.

Hillsboro won the opener, 8-3.

In the fourth, Alex Case reached on an error with two outs. He stole second, then scored on a base hit by Adam Maag.

Hillsboro tied the score in the bottom of the inning, then added four more runs in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. Tyler Ediger drove in two runs and Alex Nuss and Troy Frick one apiece to fuel the surge.

In the top of the sixth, the Warriors parlayed four hits and two errors into six runs and the 7-5 final score. Calvin Jeffrey, Zan Fine, Chase Williams and Burnett had consecutive RBI hits in the rally.

Burnett picked up victory for Marion. He allowed all five runs, surrender six hits and six walks in five complete inning. He struck out five Trojans.

Brian Freuchting pitched two scoreless inning in relief, giving up one hit while striking out three of the eight batters he faced.

Ediger absorbed the loss for the Trojans. He was charged with six runs, but only one earned run, in two complete innings of relief work. He allowed six hits and walked one with no strikeouts.

In Game 1, Marion scored two runs in its first at-bat against Frick, but Hillsboro came back with four runs in the bottom of the first on only two hits. The Warriors’ starter, Fine, walked three batters.

Marion crept to within 4-2 with a run in the top of the fourth when Fine’s single chased home Matt Thierolf, who had been hit by a pitch.

Hillsboro countered with a run the bottom of the inning on a single by Nuss, then scored two more in the fifth on a home run by Isaac Leihy after Mitchell Koop had singled with one out.

Hillsboro scored one last insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Travis Riesen singled, advanced on a ground out and then came home on a single by Koop.

Frick was credited with victory. He gave up three runs, all earned, in 32⁄3 innings. He scattered three hits, walked four and struck out three.

Leihy, who had the big hit in the game, pitched 31⁄3 scoreless innings in relief, giving up only two hits and no walks along the way. He struck one batter.

Fine was charged with the loss after giving up four runs in two-thirds of an inning. Jeffrey, who pitched 51⁄3 innings in relief, was charged with the other four. He gave up seven hits, walked three batters and struck out three.

Coming—Rain forced the cancellation of the scheduled rematch between Marion and Hillsboro on Thursday. It will not be rescheduled.

The Trojans were scheduled to complete the regular season with a doubleheader at home on Tuesday against Haven.

Regional play is set to begin Monday. Hillsboro will compete at Hoisington. Those two schools will be joined by Halstead, Haven and Lyons.
