The Hillsboro softball team found its offense late in the game to claim a 7-1 win at Hess?ton last Tuesday. The second game of the schedule doubleheader was rained out.

In the opener, the Trojans and Swathers were still tied at 0-0 when Hillsboro went to bat in the top of the fifth.

With one out, Amanda Bina started the Trojan surge with a single, then stole second. After Steph Abbott singled, Jessica Klose drove in both teammates home with a single.

Klose scored after a sacrifice by Lora Andrews and an error by the Swather first baseman on a ball hit by Suzy Lindsay. Lind?say eventually scored on a single by Bri Loewen.

Hesston touched pitcher Jenesa Klose for an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth, but Hillsboro responded with three runs in the seventh to secure the victory. Loewen drove in one run and Becky Steketee drove in two as a pinch hitter.

The Trojans and Jenesa Klose improved to 10-4 with the win. Klose scattered four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out five Swathers.

Collegiate—Hillsboro capitalized on a big day at the plate by Amanda Bina to sweep a doubleheader at Wichita Collegiate April 30, 9-2 and 15-3.

For the day, the Trojans’ leading hitter went 5-for-6 with five runs scored and six driven in. In her first at-bat, Bina set the tone for the Trojans by belting an out-of-the-park home run. The junior also pounded four doubles.

In Game 1, the Trojans built their lead slowly with a pair of runs in the first, third, fourth and seventh innings and a single run in the fifth.

Jessica Klose went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

The Spartans touched Klose for five hits and two inconsequential runs in the bottom of the seventh after the Trojans were leading 9-0. The junior hurler struck out five batters and did not yield a base on balls.

The Trojans took control of Game 2 early with seven runs in their first at-bat. They mixed three hits with five walks, a hit batter and a Spartan error as 13 Trojans went to the plate.

Hillsboro went up 13-0 after two innings with six more runs on four hits.

Jenesa Klose gave up three runs on eight hits for the comfortable victory. She walked one batter and struck out two.

Coming—The Trojans’ redo of a rained-out doubleheader with Sterling on Monday was cancelled for good on Monday following heavy rains over the weekend.

Weather permitting, Hillsboro will have concluded its regular-season schedule with a home doubleheader against Haven on Tuesday. If weather is a problem, the games may be played on Friday or Saturday.

The Trojans enter post-season play Monday by competing at the regional tournament at Southeast of Saline. Joining Hillsboro and the home team in the field are Marion, Hering?ton/White City, Hesston and Wichita Collegiate.

Seeding was not available at press time, but will be posted on the Free Press Web site when it becomes available.
