The Marion High School softball put 10 runs on the board over the course of their makeup doubleheader at Sterling on Friday, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win.

Sterling claimed victories of 4-3 and 10-7.

In Game 1, Marion used a sacrifice bunt to score Erica Geis from third in the second inning, and took a 2-0 lead when Sonja Steinborn homered leading off the next inning.

But Sterling strung together three runs in the bottom of the third to take its first lead en route to the 4-3 victory.

In Game 2, Marion jumped to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first before Sterling bounced back for the 10-7 win.

In the first inning, lead-off hitter Morgan Cady walked, then advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on a passed ball.

Geis then worked a full count into a walk, bringing up Steinborn with runners on first and third. Steinborn’s single brought Cady and Geis home.

After Lana Carroll reached base on an error, Steinborn scored on a wild pitch with Tacy Taylor at the plate and Carroll advanced to second.

Taylor then drove in Carroll with a base hit, but Taylor was thrown out at third. The inning ended two batters later.

Sterling leadoff batter Alyssa Bell opened the bottom half of the inning with a double. A passed ball put Bell on third, and Jamie Gellerman brought in the Black Bears’ first run with a single.

Two batters later, Brooke Johnson caught a fly ball and turned it into a double play after spotting Gellerman leaning toward third base. The second inning ended with a fly ball dying in the glove of Warrior second baseman Lauren Helmer.

Sterling added two more runs in the next inning to make it a one-run game, then added four more in the bottom of the third.

With Marion trailing 7-4 in the top of the fourth, Kristen Waner single and eventually came around to score. But Sterling came right back with three more runs.

Johnson and Waner scored in the top of the seventh.

Coming—The Warriors were schedule to play at Nickerson for a make-up contest Monday with Hesston coming to Marion on Tuesday. On Friday, the Warriors are scheduled to end their regular season against Lyons.

Regional action begins Monday at Southeast of Saline. Tournament seedings are yet to be announced.
