Bluejays announce basketball, football off-season signings

Several more athletes have signed letters of intent to plat sports at Tabor College next year.
Jared Hett, Marion, has signed to play basketball.
“Jared is a very talented guard who can really handle and shoot the basketball,” said Bluejay coach Micah Ratzlaff. “Jared has good size at the point guard position. And he can play at shooting guard. He will impact our team with toughness and maturity on both ends of the floor.”
Hett, a 6-1 junior guard, will transfer from Emporia State University.
Brad Shahan, Hillsboro, has signed to play for Ratzlaff as well. Shahan, a 6-4 guard, played two seasons at Ottawa University from 2000-2002 and is presently a junior.
“Brad has all the tools to be a very good player at this level,” Ratzlaff said. “He is a big guard who shoots and passes the basketball very well. I am very excited for Brad to get another chance to play basketball again.”
Marcus Singletary, Hinsville, Ga., has signed to play football and basketball.
“Singletary brings experience, size, speed and athleticism to the Tabor football program,” head coach Mike Gotsch said. “He will create that instant high level of competition with a solid group of secondary players.”
Gottsch said he was most impressed with Singletary’s personality and enthusiasm.
“He wants to become the best he can be in all areas of his life, including pleasing God.”
Singletary, a 6-1, 185-pound cornerback, will transfer from Rainy River Community College, International Falls, Minn. In two seasons he posted 88 tackles, intercepted three passes and blocked a field goal. He was a team captain.
Basketball coach Micah Ratzlaff said, “Marcus is a physically strong guard who brings a great deal of experience and athleticism to our basketball team. With two years left to play we will look for him to be an immediate impact at the varsity level.
“Playing football and basketball can be very difficult, but Marcus is the caliber of athlete that I believe will make this transition well.”
On the hardwood, Singletary, a shooting guard, was named to the Minnesota Community College Conference all-conference team. He also was a team captain.
Chad M. Huffman, Cunningham, has signed a to play football.
“Chad is a guy with super character,” Gotsch said. “He will be a positive influence for all those around him.”
Huffman, at 5-11, 185, played offensive end, middle linebacker, and kicker. He was named to the Heart of the Plains League second team on defense.
For his play on the offense, Huffman received honorable mention from Hutchinson News eight-man all-area team.
Josh Reiswig, Wichita, has signed to play in soccer at Tabor.
“Josh will have a huge impact on our back line,” coach Herb Wiebe said. “He will add much skill and athleticism. I am looking forward to coaching him.”
Maize posted a 6-11 record in 2006. In 2005 the Eagles finished third in Class 6A State at 19-2.
Reiswig, a 6-1 outside defender, was a two-year varsity starter for Maize. He received All-Ark Valley League honorable mention his junior and senior years.
Amy Dueck, Reedley, Calif., has signed to play women’s soccer. The 5-8- center/midfielder played for Immanuel High School. She scored two goals and was a co-captain for the Eagles, who finished with a 1-6-1 record.
“Amy is an aggressive player whose size and work ethic will make an immediate contribution to our team,” Wiebe said.
“She is also an exceptional student.”
