The Tabor College softball team opened its season at home last Tuesday with a doubleheader against Haskell University.

In the first game, Kalie George locked up with Haskell starter Samantha Rabbitt in a pitcher's duel through six innings.

Haskell scored in the third inning. Then, in the bottom of the sixth Tabor's Clancey Kelley walked, stole second and moved to third on a ground out.

Kelley got a great jump on a pitch that rolled away from the catcher and slid under the tag to tie the game.

With two outs in the top of the seventh, an error led to three unearned runs by Haskell.

Haskell closer Nicole Bennett slammed the door to preserve the 4-1 victory.

Haskell opened Game 2 with four quick runs, but Tabor answered with three on singles by Kelley, George and Danielle Goossen in the bottom of the first.

After two scoreless innings, Haskell scored three times in the fourth and once in the fifth. Tabor mustered only one run in the sixth, and lost 8-4.

Doane-Tabor played its third game of the season at McPherson in wintery conditions on Saturday.

Tabor struck in the top of the first inning as April Funk and Danielle Goossen both singled with two outs. Stephanie Regrut drove them both in with a single to right center.

Doane answered with two runs in the first and added runs in handfuls over the next two innings.

When the dust settled, it was 12-2 in the third and the game ended early on the 10-run rule.
