The Marion Warriors closed out the regular season with home losses to Hesston.

The boys fell, 65-59, despite getting 24 points from Travis Hett and a double-double from Jason Hett.

"We played very well for about 29 minutes of the game," coach Rex Ostmeyer said. "A little lull to end the third quarter was the difference, and you can't do that against a team as good as Hesston."

Tied 30-30 at halftime, the Swathers grabbed control of the game with an 18-10 third period.

Marion raised its game in the fourth frame and scored 19 points, but Hesston held on for the win.

"This group of kids is special, they just simply battle to the end," Ostmeyer said. "Although we lost this game, and the overtime to Collegiate on Saturday, we've proved we can play with anyone.

"We will be ready for the post-season," he added.

Michael Petrocci led the Swathers with 16 points and was joined in double-digits by Lee Voth-Gaeddert. Hesston got 21 points from its bench players, compared to 10 scored by the Warriors bench.

Jason Hett scored 14 points and led the Warriors to a 41-27 advantage on the boards by grabbing 13 rebounds.

Hesston capitalized on 24 Marion turnovers by making 23 of 60 field goal attempts. Hesston also went 11-for-11 from the foul line.

Hesston won the girls' game, 63-47.

Marion trailed 16-10 after the first quarter but outscored the Swathers 31-26 in the second half.

Julia Zeiner and Kayley Heerey each scored 12 points, but their efforts were not enough to overcome Hesston's 21-6 run in the second quarter.

The Warriors shot 6-of-29 from the field before intermission but connected on 12 of 27 attempts in the second half.

Coming-On Monday night, the Warrior girls (2-18) played a rematch with the top-seeded Swathers in the first round of the sub-state tournament.

The boys, seeded fourth at sub-state, were schedule to play a rematch with Hillsboro Tuesday in Marion.

The winner of that game will meet either top-seeded Southeast of Saline or Lyons at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The championship game will be played at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
