HES students to give musical Feb. 22

Hillsboro Elementary first- and second-graders will present the musical "Welcome to the Jungle" at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 22 in the high-school auditorium.

The public is invited to attend.

Lincolnville plans special mtg Feb. 21

A special meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 21 at 218 W. Main in Lincolnville for the purpose of discussing city ordinance No. 218 and No. 219 and updating the city ordinance book.

Marion County commissioner Dan Holub, Sheriff Lee Becker, Bobbi Strait and city attorney Dan Baldwin will attend.

Centre FFA to host breakfast Feb. 24

The Centre FFA Chapter will be serving a community-wide pancake feed from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Lincolnville Community Building.

The chapter will be serving pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee free of charge to all chapter supporters.

MOPS to meet Feb. 27 at Parkview

Mothers of PreSchoolers (MOPS) will meet from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro.

All mothers of children kindergarten age and under are invited to attend. First meeting for new moms is free.

We will be pampering ourselves with manicures and pedicures.

MCSEC to meet Feb. 28 in Florence

The Marion County Special Education Cooperative board of directors will hold a special meeting at noon Wednesday, Feb. 28, in the MCSEC conference room at 302 W. Eighth, Florence.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the executive director's evaluation.

Reception March 3 for Meyer's 95th

A reception honoring Tony Meyer's 95th birthday will be held from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at Trinity Lutheran Parish Hall in Ramona.

He was born March 3, 1912, west of Ramona on the Meyer homestead, one of 12 siblings born to Gerhard and Wilhelmine Meyer. Tony, brother George and sister Magdalene are the only living Meyer children.

Tony resided in San Francisco for much of his life, returning to Ramona in the summer to tend his land and his cattle. In 2000, he made Ramona his permanent home. He is Ramona's oldest resident.

Marion library plans new Friends group

The Marion City Library will hold an organizational meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, to form a Friends of the Library group.

The Friends will be a support group of volunteers who provide fund-raising and other assistance for the library.

Sue Blechl of Emporia Public Library will speak.
