The Marion High School basketball teams visited Halstead on Friday night, but came away without a win.

The boys' game at Halstead ended in a 45-43 loss and dropped Marion (6-1, 11-5) out of a tie for first in the Mid-Central Activities Association race.

Coming off a 74-57 drubbing of Haven last Tuesday, the Warriors built a 27-22 lead in the first half against the Dragons. A 13-6 second-quarter run was instrumental.

Marion outscored Halstead 13-12 in the third quarter, and the Warriors led 40-34 heading into the final period. But Halstead held the Warriors to only three points while scoring 11.

The Marion girls (0-7, 2-14), meanwhile, led 23-14 in the first half, but were outscored 34-21 the rest of the way and absorbed a 48-44 defeat.

Julia Zeiner scored a team-high 13 points. Zeiner also led the team in scoring during Tuesday night's 57-48 home loss to Haven with 14 points.

The teams were scheduled to play at Smoky Valley on Tuesday and will welcome Collegiate on Friday.
