Marion's Barr takes 152 lb championship at Halstead PDF Print E-mail

The Marion High wrestlers competed in tournaments at Eureka and Halstead with mixed results.

At Halstead on Jan. 22-23, John Barr took home his second championship of the year in the 152-pound weight class. His first championship of the season came at Herington.

Cody Wildin (119 pounds) and Dillon Wildin (130) both placed fourth in tough brackets.

Three others did not place, as Marion sent only six Warriors to the tournament.

"Hank Collett wrestled very well but he got beat before the medal rounds," coach Chad Adkins said.

At Eureka on Jan. 20, the Warriors had five wrestlers place in the top six.

Derek Riggs placed fourth at the 215 pounds. Barr placed fifth, and Nick Klenda (189) matched the Wildins with a sixth-place finish.

"We started out wrestling very well," Adkins said. "But we faded toward the end of the day. We are working on getting more consistent."
