The Warriors, who came into the game with a 2-7 record, fell behind early when the Red Raiders reeled off the first six points of the game.

Julia Zeiner broke Wamego's run with a free throw at the 5:45 mark and then another with 5:20 left in the period. But that was as close as Marion would come.

Wamego went on an 11-2 run to lead 17-6 at the first break. By halftime, the margin was 35-16.

Marion made only six of its 26 shots (23 percent) from the floor during the first half while allowing Wamego 14 baskets in 23 attempts (61 percent).

Marion warmed up marginally in the second half, but the outcome was never in question. Wamego led 43-22 after three quarters, then by as much as 28 points in the final period.

Ziener led the Warriors with eight points as the team finished with 27 percent (14-52) shooting from the floor and committed 23 turnovers.

For Wamego, JaNeil Robinson delivered a standout game, pouring in 28 points on the strength of 13-for-17 shooting from the field. As a team, the Red Raiders shot an even 50 percent (26-52).

Sunrise Academy (consolation semifinals)-The Buffaloes of Sunrise broke open a close game in the final quarter to claim a 59-44 victory over Marion on Thursday.

With both teams struggling to make their shots, Sunrise managed a 12-9 lead after one quarter, but the Warriors tied the game at 22 by halftime. Both teams shot an identical 8-for-27 from the floor, a hair under 30 percent.

At the end of the third quarter, the Buffaloes were up by a basket, 35-33. But a 24-11 fourth-quarter surge enabled the 15-point victory.

Marion finished with 31 percent shooting (16-52), including six of 19 attempts from behind the arc. Erin Carr led the Warriors with 15 points while Kayley Heerey added 11. The pair combined for five of Marion's 3-point baskets.

Breezie Sims scored 16 points and Carolin Besuden 10 for Sunrise, who shot 37 percent (17-46) as a team. Sunrise enjoyed a huge advantage at the free-throw line, making 23 of 31 attempts while Marion made six of only 11 throws.
