JuliAnne Chisholm scores 24 points to lead Hillsboro to victory, while poor free-throw shooting cost the boys a victory The Hillsboro High basketball teams split their games at Halstead Tuesday night, Dec. 12. The girls won 55-40 while the boys lost 47-44.

In the girls' game, a 12-2 surge in the third quarter broke open a close game. Hillsboro led 9-8 after one quarter and 22-18 at halftime, but the game turned in the third quarter as Hillsboro pressed its way to a 34-20 advantage by the time it ended.

JuliAnne Chisholm scored 11 of her season-high 24 points in the final quarter to keep the Dragons at bay. Tina Frick added 10 points on the night. Nine Trojans contributed points as HHS improved to 3-1 for the year.

The Hillsboro boys hooked up with Halstead for an exciting game that went down to the wire. Halstead led 13-11 after one quarter and 30-24 at the half.

Trailing 38-33 heading into the fourth quarter, the Trojans finally pulled into the lead at 44-43 when Aaron Stepanek stole the ball and scored on a layup with 1:24 left in the game.

But this game came down to free-throw shooting. The Dragons went 4-for-4 in the final minute and 6-for-6 in the second half while Hillsboro went 0-for-6 for the second half and 2-for-11 for the game.

Troy Frick, coming back from illness after missing two games last weekend, scored 12 points to pace HHS, which drops to 1-3 for the season.
