Frigid shooting undermines Hillsboro girls' drive for a tournament title while the Trojan boys blow out an undermanned Chaparral squad. The Hillsboro High girls struggled to get anything going on either end of the court, but 25 percent shooting for evening enabled Clearwater to roll to a 45-25 victory in the championship game of the Cheney Classic on Saturday in Cheney.

The Trojans looked in pretty good form during the first quarter, which ended in an 8-8 tie. The only signal of danger ahead was JuliAnne Chisholm's third foul that sent her to the bench with 1:57 left in the period.

On this night, no one stepped up to fill the void created by her absence. The Trojans suffered through an 0-for-11 shooting performance in the second period to trail 19-10 by halftime.

Hillsboro pulled to within 21-15 with Chisholm back on the floor to start the third quarter, but the senior forward picked up her fourth foul with 4:04 left in the period and was back on the bench. By the end of the quarter, Clearwater had bumped the lead to 33-22.

The final period turned into futility as Hillsboro made only only one of 14 shots down the stretch and the Indians coasted to the 20-point victory.

The loss dropped Hillsboro to 2-1 for the year.

Earlier int he day, the HHS boys broke loose after two frustrating losses to start the season and easily left the Roarrunners from Chaparral in the dust.

The game was still close at 14-9 after one quarter, but a 20-2 second quarter blew it open for Hillsboro. By the end of the third period, the Trojans were by 30, 52-22.

Lucas Hamm finished with 13 points to lead a balanced attack.

The win boosts the Trojans to 2-1 for the year.
