Have you ever been sick without being sick? I had something tickling my throat for about a week with a cough but no fever. Usually, it turns into a fever after a few days. This time it didn't.
I got better for a while and then it came back again, but still no fever. When it came back again I said, "I don't know what I didn't have last week but I don't have it again."

I commend the Hillsboro Community Foundation committee in charge of the Impact Fund for an excellent event at Parkview Activity Center last Monday night.
It's good to look back and recognize the people who have made a difference in Hillsboro and provide a means via the Impact Fund for giving back to the community.
Without the foresight of the group of individuals who purchased 160 acres to open the industrial park, we wouldn't have the diversification in our economy that exists today.
The Foundation's motto, "Together planting possibilities for tomorrow," will take us to the next level in community development.
Larry Hatteberg did a terrific job with his presentation on ordinary people who have made a difference in their communities. He also deftly handled the power outage in the middle of his talk.
When the power failed a flash went through my head. Maybe the first goal for the Foundation would be to put in an electric generating plant for our town.

It's been a great week for area football fans. Take your pick among high school, college or university.
We keep relearning that no game is won until it is played on the field. The Trojans have proven that during the playoffs and the Wildcats did the same thing against the Longhorns.
The showdowns in Hillsboro and Lawrence this weekend will be a blast.

In my old age, I would like a move toward indoor football because I have become a wuss with the weather. I know it only got down to 40 degrees in Salina last Friday night, but with the wind it seemed much worse.
Other people might laugh at me, but for Friday night's game I wore a T-shirt, then a long underwear shirt plus longjohns, then a turtleneck knit shirt, then a hooded sweatshirt, then a down vest plus my winter coat and a stocking cap with gloves.
I was still cold.
Until we gained the lead in the second half. Suddenly, the weather seemed almost balmy.

A friend who shall remain anonymous sent me a newspaper clipping from the Times Sentinel, which covers Cheney High School sports. In the account of the Hillsboro-Cheney game we were referred to as the "Dragons."
What was even more interesting was that the article mentioned the goal posts at Reimer Field are narrower than high-school regulation-which may have been the reason Cheney missed a late field goal try that would have won the game.
My take on the issue is that the goal posts were the same width for both teams. It would be like saying we lost because it was raining or because it was cold.

Now, to complicate things, KU basketball has begun. It is getting harder to get any work done because of all of the sports activities. There are games I recorded on the DVR 10 days ago that I haven't been able to watch yet. Such problems.
