Hillsboro Middle School will hold an assembly to celebrate student achievement from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, in the auditorium.
Renaissance cards, service awards and "students of the nine weeks" awards will be given.
The public is invited to attend.
American Legion VA benefits meeting
American Legion Post No. 366 will host a meeting for veterans and their families wishing to learn more about earned veteran benefits at 1:40 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at 405 Floral Drive in Hillsboro.
The meeting is part of the legion's annual tour in which state and district officers visit more than 330 American Legion posts throughout Kansas.
Hillsboro UMC plans turkey dinner Nov. 3
Hillsboro United Methodist Church will sponsor its annual turkey dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, in the church fellowship hall.
A silent auction and country store bazaar will accompany the meal.
For carry-out dinners, call the church at 947-5643 between 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Friday and pick up order between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the back of the fellowship hall.
Donations will go toward missions and church projects.
Ramona fire dept hunters' feed Nov. 4
The Ramona Fire Department will host a hunters' feed breakfast from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, in the Ramona Lutheran Church parish hall.
Pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice will be served.
Donations will go to the department's special equipment fund.
13th county toy run planned for Nov. 4
The 13th annual Marion County Toy Run from Marion to Hillsboro will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, from the Eastmoor United Methodist Church parking lot on East Main.
The toy run will stop at Hillsboro State Bank, where participants will contribute a toy to area Christmas trees.
Donated toys and proceeds will help provide a better holiday season for underprivileged children in the county.
The public is invited to line the parade route and cheer on the drivers.
Following the toy run, a chili feed and auction will be held at the Hillsboro American Legion with items donated by businesses and individuals.
The event is sponsored by the Sons of American Legion No. 366, ABATE of Kansas District 9 and the Route 56 Classic Cruisers.

Quilt guild to meet Nov. 6 at UMC
The Country Stitchers Quilt Guild will meet at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church, 905 E. D.
Erna Saltzman will present "Tucks and Textures." Each person should bring pins, scissors and six each of 6 1/2, 8 1/2 and 12 1/2-inch squares of muslin.
Visitors are welcome at a fee of $2.
Mid-Cap distributing warm home kits
In an effort to save energy and money, Mid-Kansas Community Action Program of Marion will be distributing warm-home kits again this year through the Kansas Warm Homes Project.
"With a tough winter ahead, these warm-home kits can make your family a bit more comfortable in the months to come," said Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. "With some common-sense measures, hopefully, we can all fight off the worst of the winter chills."
The kits contain energy saving light bulbs, shrink-fit window plastic, rope caulk, door sweep, outlet gaskets, foam weather strip and an energy savings tip guide.

Parkview to host Grace Again Nov. 5
Willie and Rodi Longenecker, under the name Grace Again, will give a gospel music program at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at Parkview Church in Hillsboro.

Goessel students to perform 'Cheaper'
Goessel High School will present the play "Cheaper By the Dozen" at 7 p.m. Nov. 10 and 11 in the GHS auditorium.
Directed by Greg Bontrager, the play will star Nathan Amstutz as Frank Bunker Gilbreth, a turn-of-the-century efficiency expert who tries to apply his work standards to raising 12 children.
Also starring are Jennifer Krehbiel as his wife, Katie Flaming as oldest daughter Anne, Travis Duerksen as son Frank, Chrystiana Voth as daughter Ernestine, Amy Brubaker, Brett Goerzen, Isaac Fast, Laura Unruh, Matt Johnston, Sierra Dirksen, Janessa Wedel, Kristin Unruh, Ryan Goertzen, Niklas Burkart and Austin Unruh.

Goessel Mennonite to install new pastor
Mike Hiebert will be installed as the new pastor at Goessel Mennonite Church in a service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 5.
A potluck fellowship meal will follow. The public is invited to attend.
Tampa association plans game night
The Tampa Community Association will sponsor a game night starting at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 at Tampa Senior Center.
The public is invited to attend and bring a snack to share.
Goessel church to host Frank Drown
Chisholm Trail Bible Church in Goessel will hold a film showing at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 about the five missionaries martyred in Ecuador in 1956.
Food and fellowship will follow.
The event is in preparation for a visit Nov. 12 from Frank Drown of Avant Ministries, who led the search party to find his missionary friends.
Drown was featured in the films "End of the Spear" and "Beyond the Gates of Splendor" and will speak at 9:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. A free lunch will be served at noon.
Chisholm Trail Bible Church meets weekly at 10:45 a.m. Sundays at 200 N. Poplar.
PEO to meet Nov. 6 at Eastmoor UMC
Chapter DB members of PEO held a social meeting Oct. 16 hosted by Joyce Smith and Margaret Pickering.
Judy Reno gave a program titled "Jewels of the Hospital Auxiliary Shoppe."
