Pancakes, sausage Oct. 27 at AGAPE

A pancake and sausage meal will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at the AGAPE Senior Center, 101 N. Wheat, Goessel.

A freewill donation will be taken for the center.

Haunted house event in Ramona

Ramona's fifth and largest haunted house will be open from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 27 and 28, in an old house east of Ramona.

Drive to and park your vehicle at the corner of 100th, 370th and Rain roads, where you'll be picked up for a 6-t0-10-minute hayrack ride to the haunted house. Dress warmly.

Concessions will be available at the haunted house.

Entrance fees are $5 for a family of 6 or less. Couples pay $2.50 and single price is $1.50.

For $1 per ticket you can enter a drawing for a Coleman stove, lantern and travel cooler, donated by Bill and Rohani Alcorn of Ramona.

The haunted house is sponsored by the Ramona Park Improvement Committee, which is dedicated to building bathrooms in Ramona's city park.

Soup supper Oct. 27 for Marion Fire Dept

A soup supper and bake sale will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at Our Savior Lutheran Church parish hall at 320 S. Cedar in Marion to raise funds for a thermal imaging camera for the Marion Fire Department.

Soups will include chicken noodle, vegetable and chili.

The event is a cooperative effort of the Morris/Marion chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutheran, the Marion Fire Department and the community.

Supper, auction set for Oct. 28 in Burns

The Burns United Methodist Church will host its annual supper and auction bazaar starting at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, in Burns.

A supper of beef brisket, turkey and dressing casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, green beans, Jell-O salad, homemade roll, pie and coffee or tea will be served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. Donations will be accepted.

A country store will sell baked goods and crafts during the meal. This year's quilt, a four-block wildflower design by Sandra Heyman and made by women of the church, will be on display in the church.

The auction will follow at 7:30 p.m. in the Burns Community Building, which will be open after 4 p.m. to receive auction items. A drawing for the quilt or 20 gallons of gasoline will take place at the end of the auction.

Proceeds from the supper and auction will support church and community programs.

Alexanderfeld plans song service Oct. 29

The Alexanderfeld Church will host its annual fall song service at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at the church, located one mile west and one mile south of Hillsboro.

Youth from the Meridian church will present the program.

Roger Cooper to perform Oct. 29

Kansas musician Roger Cooper will perform at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at Marion Christian Church, 140 Elm.

Cooper has opened for artists such as George Strait, Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw, Vince Gill and Ricky Skaggs. He has recorded 16 albums and served for 20 years as a music leader for Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

The public is invited to attend.

Health dept to give shots Oct. 30

The Marion County Health Department will offer flu shots for $25 and pneumonia shots for $44 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, at the Peabody-Burns Elementary School.

Children invited to LIVE B.I.G. in Burns

A new ministry for children in first through sixth grade called "LIVE B.I.G.!" will meet from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.Wednesday nights beginning Nov. 1 at Burns United Methodist Church.

The ministry is patterned after Jesus's words in the gospel of John to "Believe In God, believe also in me."

Chat and Dine soup supper Nov. 4

The final meeting of the 40th Marion County Lake Chat and Dine season will be a soup supper at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at the south lake hall.

Full-time, seasonal and former residents are invited to bring families and a soup spoon to the meal of chili, vegetable, chicken-noodle and cheeseburger soups.

First-time attenders and those with November birthdays and anniversaries will be recognized. An activity box will be available for children.

Also on the agenda are the election of the 2007 Coordinating Committee and a financial report.

Hosts are Jean Maples, Don Thomas, Sally and Paul Attwater and Tina and Earl Hancock.

HHS 'Shenandoah' tickets for sale

Tickets are for sale for the Hillsboro High School musical "Shenandoah," scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9, 10, 11 and 13 in the high-school auditorium.

Tickets cost $5 each and may be purchased by calling in the high-school office at 947-3991.

Vendor space open for holiday bazaar

Booth spaces are available for the holiday bazaar and sandwich bar planned for 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, by the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6958 at 420 W. Santa Fe in Marion.

Cost is $10 per 8-foot table space to sell handcrafted or collector's items. The fee will support the post's home and advertising costs.

Money collected from the sandwich bar will support endowment scholarships for high-school and college students with parents or grandparents who have served the U.S. armed services on foreign seas and soil, phone cards for men and women in overseas troops, veterans in hospitals and home and families of veterans and soldiers.

Judges announce scarecrow winners

The judges of the second annual Scarecrows on Parade contest have announced this year's winners.

After a first round of judging by a county resident, Marion County commissioners Dan Holub and Randy Dallke and county sanitation director Bobbi Strait selected the top entries in each category.

In the business category, the California Sisters of Ramona placed first and received a traveling trophy with "Cousins Playing Croquet" at Cousin's Corner Bed and Breakfast at 401 D. Dixon Sales of Burdick took second with "You Should Have Bought a Dixon" at Main and Owens and Tampa Bank took third with "Afloat In a Financial Sea" at 326 Main.

In the residential category, Pat Wick of Ramona took the first-place $50 prize and traveling trophy for "Making Sunday Dinner" at 412 D. Fern Leach of Ramona took second place and $30 for "Pioneer Family" at 202 D and Margaret Harris of Ramona took third place and $20 for "Watering the Flowers" at the town entrance on Quail Creek Road.

Receiving honorable mention and a gift certificate from Burdick Meat Market, Al's Cafe in Lost Springs, Ramona Cafe or The Barbershop Gallery in Ramona were Shelly Wirtz of Lost Springs for "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves" at 200 S. Jefferson, Greg and Michelle Berens of Tampa for "Family Picnic" at 414 Main, Rick and Angela Basore of Burdick for "Help" at 543 Main and Tom and Dee Duggan of Tampa for "Square Dance Caller" at 225 W. Fourth.

Receiving the Artful Eye Award and a gift certificate from the Barbershop Gallery & Gift Shop in Ramona was Mary Dean Peterson of Burdick for "Grandma's Pumpkin Patch" at 539 Main.

In the children's category, the overall winners were the fourth graders of Centre Elementary School for "Jesse James Gang." Each child will receive a $2 bill from commissioner Holub.

The children's winners from each town, receiving $10 and a 12-pack of soda, were the CES fourth graders of Lost Springs, "4-H Kids" on the Tampa Senior Center railing on Main Street, Kodey Johnson of Burdick with "Ready To Hunt" at 214 Main and Dustin Rhodes of Ramona with "Caution! Man at Work" at the Ramona Post Office.

The scarecrows will remain on display until at least Oct. 31. Maps are available in each town.
