Tabor volleyball played Southwestern on the road in between home games against Sterling and Southern Nazarene this week.

Staci Frick led the team to wins over Sterling and Southwestern, and averaged 3.7 kills per game for the week.

The Bluejays lost to non-conference opponent Southern Nazarene (16-30, 22-30, 30-27, 28-30) on Friday night as part of a two-game tuneup before the closing stretch of the season.

"We didn't play fast enough early enough in the match," coach Amy Ratzlaff said. "But we sped our game up, and it was good to win the third game.

"We came within inches of the fourth...our home crowd was really good, so I think if we could have gotten into a fifth game, we could have caused them some grief."

Against the 3-10 Sterling Warriors, Frick and three others each totaled 10 or more kills as TC powered its way to a three game win (30-20, 30-20, 30-26).

Kelsi Suderman had 10 kills and seven blocks. Ashley Malcom had 10 kills, two aces and nine digs. Lindsey Vogts had 10 kills and eight digs.

The Bluejays also swept the 0-13 Southwestern Moundbuilders in three games (30-18, 30-21, 30-19).

Vogts had eight kills, four digs and three blocks. Malcom tallied 13 kills, 11 digs and five blocks. Suderman added eight blocks and three kills.

In the two conference games, Frick had 25 kills, four blocks, 32 digs and six aces.

"We came out determined against Sterling," Ratzlaff said. "Southwestern is a hard team to prepare for, and the game was out of system a lot, but it's always good to get a win," Ratzlaff said.

Audrey Schellenberg averaged more than 10 assists per game for the week, and the team improved its record to a conference-leading 13-1.

This week, Tabor meets Kansas Wesleyan at Salina, Friends in Hillsboro and Bethany in Lindsborg.

Results for a Monday night match against Newman were not available at press time.

The match against Kansas Wesleyan is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The match against Friends is set for 10 a.m. Saturday.

The match against Bethany is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday.
