Rose M. Barkman, 79, died Oct. 11 at the Marion Manor.

Private family services will be held.

She was born Aug. 2, 1927, to William Scott and Bertha Agnes (Thomas) Barkman.

She is survived by a sister, Teeny Williams of Marion County Lake.

A memorial has been established with the Marion Manor Activity Fund in care of Zeiner Funeral Home of Marion.

Alfred Friesen

Alfred W. Friesen, 79, retired jewelry-store owner, died Oct. 9 in Reedley, Calif.

A memorial service will be held Oct. 20 at Palm Village in Reedley.

He was the former owner of Friesen's Jewelers in Hillsboro.

He is survived by his wife, Delores of Reedley; two sons, David and Deborah of Fresno, Calif., and Dale and Julie of San Jose, Calif.; four brothers, Vernon and Rachel and Andy and Bonnie, both of Hillsboro, Orval and Jean of Fremont, Calif., and Norman and Doris of Shafter, Calif.; a sister, Arlene and Calvin Dahl of New Hope, Minn.; a brother-in-law, Leonard Klassen of Marion; and six grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with the Albert W. Friesen Scholarship Fund at Tabor College and the Palm Village Retirement Community in Reedley.

Marie Land

Marie Land, 73, waitress and housekeeper, died Oct. 13 in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at the Florence United Methodist Church with pastor Bethann Black officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

She was born April 25, 1933, to Harold and Mildred (Osbourn) Johnston in Marion. She was married to Leroy Cox, who survives in Florence.

She is also survived by four daughters, Sandy and Gary Riggs of Newton, Margaret and Rick Burcky of Marion, Ethel Shelburn of Eureka and Rose and Kevin Clark of Charlie, Texas; three brothers, Dale Johnston and Wayne Johnston, both of Marion, and Les Johnston of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Shirley Cardin of Florence, Wanda Waring of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Barbara Craney of Topeka; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with the American Heart Association and Florence United Methodist Church in care of Zeiner Funeral Home of Marion.

Helen Loewen

Helen Loewen, 90, homemaker, died Oct. 10 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.

The service was held Oct. 16 at Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church in rural Hillsboro with pastor Gaylord Goertzen officiating. Burial was at Ebenfeld Cemetery.

She was born July 25, 1916, to P.J. Koop and Pauline Schroeder in Hillsboro. On April 3, 1941, she was married to Leander Loewen, who survives in Hillsboro.

She is also survived by two sons, Robert and Rita and Charles and Mary, all of rural Hillsboro; a daughter, Carol and Sherwin Ratzlaff of Enid, Okla.; a brother, Wally Koop of Shafter, Calif.; two sisters, Edna Suderman of Hillsboro and Lorna Gerbrandt of Antelope, Calif.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with Salem Home and Parkside Homes in Hillsboro, in care of Jost Funeral Home in Hillsboro.

Bob Turner

Robert V. "Bob" Turner, 78, farmer and retired produce manager at Quality Market in Marion, died Oct. 9 in Marion.

The service was held Oct. 12 at Eastmoor United Methodist in Marion with pastor Mike Eurit officiating. Burial was at Marion Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 2, 1928, to Ira W. and Helen (Oyer) Turner in Marion On July 29, 1951, he was married to Frances Walsh, who survives in Marion.

He is also survived by two sons, A.J. and Jalene of Emporia and Bill of Lincolnville; a daughter, Sandy and Jim Sloan of Willow Springs, Mo.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and Gideons International in care of Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion.

Orlando Voth

Orlando W. Voth, 90, retired mechanic, died Oct. 13 at Newton Medical Center.

The service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Tabor Mennonite Church in rural Goessel with pastors Corey Miller and Karen Andres officiating. Burial will be at Tabor Mennonite Cemetery.

He was born June 16, 1916, to Peter J. and Susie (Schmidt) Voth in Goessel. On May 26, 1956, he was married to Virginia Casey, who survives in Goessel.

He is also survived by four sons, Robert and Sandy Blackmore of Newton, Wesley and Jeanne of Wichita, Galen of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Brian and Gayle of Newton; two daughters, Janice and Gary Winter of Wichita and Linda and Danny Schill of Paola; three brothers, L.M. "Bud" and Loretta of Wichita, Clayton of Warner Robins, Ga., and Bert and Velma of Kansas City; four sisters, Myrtle Mohn of Hillsboro, Ruby Funk of Newton, Maxine Bolte of Lompoc, Calif., and Lillian Brady of Clearwater; 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
