The Tabor College cross-country teams traveled to Winfield Friday to compete in the Southwestern/NAIA Mid-States Classic.
Running against 26 other teams, including regional powerhouses William Woods and Oklahoma Baptist, the Bluejays measured themselves at the most competitive meet of the season.
"It's really a smaller version of the national meet," coach Karol Hunt said. "With the winning times at 17:57 for the women and 25:05 for the men, we focus on our times and not necessarily our places."
The Tabor women placed 17th out of 27 teams. Sarah Fogle finished the race in 19:33 to lead the squad, placing 39th overall.
Fogle was followed by Shelby Miller (20:28), Amber Wiens (20:44), Heidi Schmidt (21:07), Carrie Schroeder (21:18), Ashley Schmidt (21:48) and Leah Kopper (23:12).
Jera Teselle, running her first race following an injury, finished in 24:32.
"It was good to have (Teselle) running a complete race after an injury," Hunt said. "It was a good outing for the women."
Four men runners completed personal bests. Freshman Dan Sigley paced the team with an 8-kilometer personal-best 28:32 that placed him 112th among of 206 finishers. Zac Remboldt (29:08) and Caleb Schroeder (29:15) set personal bests, followed closely by Kyle Larson (29:25) and Jeff Anenson (29:54).
Kyle Larson, Anenson and Kevin Larson (30:28) ran season-best times.
"It is important for (our seniors) to finish their running careers on a high note," Hunt said.
Ric Johnson ran a personal best 31:09 with Brandon Voth (31:10) finishing on his heels. Will Higerd finished in 31:30.
"This was our final tune-up before the conference meet in two weeks," Hunt said. "I am proud of our performances."
Sterling College will host the conference meet Saturday, Oct. 28. The women will run at 10:30 a.m. and the men at 11:15.
