Tabor College cross country traveled to Salina Oct. 7 to run at the Kansas Wesleyan Invitational.
The women had three runners place in the top 15 and the team captured third out of 13 teams.
Sarah Fogle (20 minutes, 50 seconds) led the team with her fifth-place finish followed by Shelby Miller (21:56, 12th), Amber Wiens (22:04, 15th), Heidi Schmidt (22:53, 25th), Ashley Schmidt (22:56, 26th), Carrie Schroeder (23:35 34th) and Leah Kopper (24:26, 42nd).
"We have run against all the conference schools now and it appears the women have a strong hold on third place behind Southwestern and Kansas Wesleyan," coach Karol Hunt said. "We are working hard to close that gap."
The men finished sixth out of 11 teams competing.
Zac Remboldt (31:57) and Kyle Larson (32:01) paced the men's team with 37th and 39th place finishes.
"Kyle (Larson) turned in his best performance of the season," Hunt said. "It was not his fastest time, but he raced well in finishing second for the team."
Also competing for Tabor were Caleb Schroeder (32:24, 44th), Kevin Larson (32:28, 45th), Dan Sigley (32:31, 46th), Brandon Voth (32:46, 50th), Ric Johnson (33:30, 54th), Jeff Anenson (34:21, 59th) and Will Higerd (35:03, 64th).
"We ran hard," Hunt said. "It was kind of a tough day racing wise. This was our first competition after setting 12 personal records at home two weeks ago. It's hard to replicate that kind of success."
Coming-Next up is the NAIA Mid-states classic at Southwestern College in Winfield on Oct. 13. The women run at 4 p.m. and the men at 4:45.
