With only a day to rest from the Berean Invitational on Thursday, cross-country runners from Hillsboro competed Saturday at the multi-state Rim Rock Invitational sponsored by the University of Kansas.
Cody McMillen led the Trojan boys to a 12th-place team finish in the Blue Division by placing 10th among 140 finishers in a time of 17 minutes, 46 seconds.
Sean Leihy placed 20th in 18:05, Johnny Christian 78th in 10:47, Zach Magnuson 126th in 21:46 and Daniel Miller 139th in 24:56.
Hillsboro accumulated 328 team points. Kearney (Neb.) won the team title with 75.
Two Trojans competed in the girls' 4-kilometer race. Elissa Richert was 88th among 116 finishers in 19:44 and Hannah Marsh placed 114th in 21:24.
Berean-Hillsboro claimed third place in an eight-team field at the Berean Invitational on Thursday.
With a unique format of having separate races for each team's five varsity runners, the Trojan boys compiled a composite time of 90 minutes, 26 seconds to finishing behind Mulvane (88:36) and Trinity Academy (90:11).
Cody McMillen (16:55) and Sean Leihy (17:22) led the Trojans with third-place finishes in the races for No. 1 and 2 runners, respectively. Nicholas Mueller (18:02), Johnathan Christian (18:49) and Nathan Vogel (19:15) each placed sixth in the No. 3, 4 and 5 races, respectively.
For the girls, Berean offers one varsity race. Jessica Elliott led Hillsboro by placing 18th over the 4-kilometer route with time of 18:12. She was followed by Heidi Schroeder (31st, 19:02), Elissa Richert (36th, 19:22), Hannah Marsh (44th, 20:01) and Brittany McInnis (45th, 20:06).
Coming-The Trojans were scheduled to run Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Ellsworth.
