The No. 1 ranked Hillsboro High volleyball team pushed its season record to 14-0 with a pair of wins at Marion Sept. 19.
The Trojans (14-0) cruised through the first match, 25-12, 25-4, fueled by a 17-point serving run in Game 2 by Jenesa Klose.
In the second match, a 25-14, 25-20 win, the Trojans may have sacrificed margin of victory for the sake of broadening its attack.
"The second match was good in that we got the chance to work on some special plays," coach Sandy Arnold said.
"I've been forcing them to work on those plays in practice the past couple of weeks. You can do it in practice all you want, but there comes a time when you have to try it in a game-and trying them in a tight game is not always a good time to be doing it.
"We didn't score on all of (the plays), but we did run them-and that was the best part, that we made an attempt. I was very please with the results."
Arnold said she also was pleased, by and large, that her team continues to maintain a high level of play regardless of the competition.
"I've been concerned about that, to be honest," Arnold said. "I want to make sure we're ready to go when we play those teams that are going to really challenge us."
Coming-The Trojans were scheduled to play host to Smoky Valley for a couple of "Senior Night" league games on Tuesday.
On Saturday, the Trojans will compete in a challenging field at the Canton-Galva Invitational. Included in the field is perennial powerhouse Moundridge, who is undefeated and ranked No. 1 in Class 2A.
"I hope we get to play them there," Arnold said. "Otherwise we won't see them this season. If there's any year we should walk onto the court feeling like we have a chance to win, this is it."
