A morning tour is planned for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20. Participants are asked to meet at the Marion County Fairgrounds located at the corner of D and Date streets in Hillsboro to register. Bus transportation will be provided to the tour sites.

Persons with special needs or disabilities should also call or e-mail FSA so proper accommodations can be provided.

This tour will offer opportunities to view and learn about unique CRP conservation practices such as native-grass establishments, vegetative filter strips and buffers, upland bird habitats, and wildlife wetland areas.

Conservation experts will share their experiences and explain environmental benefits of each practice. Since some areas on the tour may require walking over undeveloped terrain, participants are advised to wear appropriate and comfortable footwear and clothing.

CRP is recognized as the largest and most important conservation initiative between the federal government and private land owners instituted in our country's history. Nearly a half-million producers have enrolled more than 35 million acres.

CRP producers can receive annual rental and cost-share payments to establish long-term, resource-conserving vegetative covers on eligible farmlands.

The rewards of improved soil conservation, cleaner air and water, and enhanced wildlife habitat benefit us all today and extend to future generations.
