Trojans crush Wildcats, 48-6, to go 2-0 for 2006 PDF Print E-mail

Hillsboro again turns in a dominant performance and, for the second week, enjoyed a continuous clock for most of the second half Two games, two blowouts.

Hillsboro turned in a near replay of last week's romp over Nickerson with a 48-6 pounding of Haven Friday (Sept. 8) at Reimer Field in Hillsboro.

The Trojans' Michael Suderman scored the first of his three touchdowns on a 21-yard run at the 9:21 mark of the first quarter -- and Hillsboro never looked back.

Suderman scored again, this time from 12 yards out, with 3:36 left in the opening quarter to give Hillsboro a 13-0 lead at the first break.

In the second quarter, guard Tyler Kaufman recovered a fumble by Lucas Hamm in the end zone for the first of three Hillsboro scores in that period. The second one came on a 57-yard run by quarterback Spencer Brown with 7:10 to play, and the third one from Suderman, who ran in from 10 yards out with 2:01 left in the half to give HIllsboro a lopsided 34-0 lead at intermission.

By halftime, Hillsboro had rolled up 320 yards of total offense -- 281 on the ground and 39 in the air -- while Haven had managed only 36 rushing yards and minus-1 yard through the air.

The continuous clock kicked in when Brown ran in from 16 yards out to give HIllsboro a 41-0 lead with 7:57 left in the third quarter.

Adam Dirks capped the scoring with a 1-yard run with 3:09 left in that period as the lead ballooned to 48-0.

Haven scored an otherwise meaningless touchdown against the Trojan reserves late in the game to avoid the shutout.

Hillsboro take its 2-0 season and league mark to Wichita next Friday when they take on the Spartans.
