Elda Klassen

Elda Ruth Klassen, 95, retired hospital cook at Salem Hospital in Hillsboro, died Sept. 3 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.

Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Johannestal Cemetery in rural Hillsboro.

The service will be at 11 a.m. at Trinity Mennonite Church in Hillsboro with pastor Tim Kliewer officiating.

She was born Dec. 9, 1910, to John and Amelia Ratzlaff Plenert in Hillsboro. On Sept. 29, 1933, she was married to Elmer Klassen, who survives in Hillsboro.

She is also survived by three sons, Dwaine Dale of Wichita, Richard Gene of Grand Junction, Colo., and Jay Dean of Hillsboro; a daughter, Joan Joyce Klassen Wilson of Olathe; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with Parkside Homes in care of Jost Funeral Home.

Rudi Penner

Rudolph "Rudi" H. Penner, 87, farmer, died Sept. 2 at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Emmaus Mennonite Church in rural Whitewater with pastors Rodney Crowell and Jim Voth officiating. Burial is at Emmaus Mennonite Church Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 9, 1918, to Kurt H. and Bertha M. (Schmitt) Penner in Whitewater. On Oct. 10, 1940, he was married to Anna E. Voth, who died in 1991.

He is survived by a son, Leroy and Florence Penner of Peabody; a sister, Hilda Ray of Winfield; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with Emmaus Church Relief and Hospice Care of Kansas in care of Lamb Funeral Home of Whitewater.

Robert Wedel

Robert L. Wedel, 70, retired truck driver for Canton Service Center, died Aug. 31 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

The service was held Sept. 5 at First Christian Church in Canton with pastor Jim Keil officiating. Burial was in Canton Township Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 2, 1936, to Lincoln and Alma Ratzlaff Wedel in McPherson. On June 10, 1961, he was married to Sharon Kay Ferguson, who survives in Canton.

He is also survived by two sons, Doug and Brad, both of Canton; his mother of Montezuma; a brother, Eugene of McPherson; a sister, Carolyn Becker of Montezuma; and four grandchildren.

The Robert L. Wedel Memorial Fund has been established in care of Olson's Mortuary of Canton.
