Appointments for free screening for children from birth through 5 years old are available from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Hillsboro Methodist Church, 905 E. D St.
The screening will assess development in the cognitive, social-emotional, motor and speech/language areas. Vision, hearing and nutrition will also be checked. This process usually takes about one hour for a child to complete.
All children are welcome, but an appointment is necessary. To make one, call Marion County Early Intervention Services at 1-877-878-4519, ext. 117.
United Way starting annual campaign
United Way of Marion County will hold its annual fund-raising campaign from Sept. 1 through Oct. 31 for non-profit agencies in Marion County, including the American Red Cross and Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
Donations may be sent United Way in Marion County, P.O. Box 162, Hillsboro, KS 67063.
HCMC Auxiliary group to meet
The HCMC Volunteer Auxiliary is holding its second meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5 in the HCMC conference room.
Johna Magnuson, registered nurse in acute care has been working to begin an auxiliary and volunteer program at HCMC.

Quilt guild to hold planning meeting
The Country Stitches Quilt Guild will hold its yearly planning meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church.
Each guild member needs to bring her "challenge," which is a quilted wearable project.
GHS Booster Club plans tailgate party
The Goessel Booster Club will sponsor a tailgate party from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 12 inside the Goessel High School football stadium.
A $5 barbecue meal will be served. The public is invited to attend.
Girl Scouts to hold cookie sale Sept. 2
The Hillsboro Girl Scout troops will have a cookie booth from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, at Vogt's Hometown Market in Hillsboro Heights.
Part of the proceeds from the $3 boxes will stay with the local troops.

Farmerettes Club celebrates 60 years
The Farmerettes Club celebrated 60 years with an anniversary party Aug. 14.
Nine members ate dinner together at Main Street Cafe in Durham then visited Carol Flaming's home to view a video of their 50th anniversary party at the Hillsboro Scout House.
Present members of the Farmerettes Club are Myrta Bartel, Letty Enns, Carol Flaming, Nellie Jost, Irma Koop, Leona Koslowsky, Helen McMinn, Dorothy Pankratz, Ruth Ann Panner, Marge Rediker, Darlene Schmidt and Elizabeth Unruh.
