HCMC long-term care unit receives PEAK award again
For the second consecutive year, the Hillsboro Community Medical Center Long Term Care Unit has been recognized with a state award for its efforts to promote person-centered care.
HCMC was among eight care homes in Kansas to be recognized with the Promoting Excellent Alternatives in Kansas (PEAK) Award.
The award recognizes homes that adopt more home-like settings along with resident control, staff empowerment and community involvement.
Kathy Greenlee, acting secretary of the Kansas Department on Aging, announced the winners last week during remarks at Kansas Adult Care Executives' 34th annual convention in Wichita.
"The culture of care can't be changed without leadership from administrators and staff," Greenlee said. "We applaud the staff at these facilities for creating a different kind of life for nursing home residents."
The other PEAK winners were: Bethany Home Association, Lindsborg; Dooley Center, Atchison; Medicalodge of Eureka, Eureka; Minneola District Hospital Long-Term Care Unit; Newton Presbyterian Manor, Newton; and Pleasant View Home Inc., Inman.
Pleasant View also has received prior PEAK Awards.
KDOA began recognizing adult care homes through the PEAK Awards in 2002. Facilities must submit an application to be considered. On-site presentation of the awards will be made later this year.
