Arnold Holt

Arnold Lester Holt, 83, U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and retired owner and operator of Champlin Service Station in Marion, died Aug. 8 at Newton Medical Center following a lengthy illness at home.

Rosary was recited Aug. 10 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Marion. Mass was held Aug. 11 at Holy Family, followed by burial with military honors presented by the Fort Riley Honor Guard at Marion Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 21, 1923, to Herman and Fawn (Bowling) Holt at Atwood. On Aug. 9, 1952, he was married to Florence Silhan, who survives in Marion.

He is also survived by a son, Terry and wife Ann of Marion; two daughters, Jean Spear and husband Robert of Clarkesville, Ga., and Carol Sealine and husband Marshall of Marshalltown, Iowa; a brother, Donald of Liberal; a sister Vivian of Jackson, Mich.; and 11 grandchildren.

Memorials have been established at St. Luke Hospital Foundation and Holy Family Parish of Marion County.

Butch LaBelle

Butch LaBelle, 39, sports broadcaster and media entrepreneur from McPherson, died Aug. 13 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, in Wichita.

Burial mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in McPherson with Father David Lies and Father Paul Orborny officiating. Burial will follow at Graveside Services Calvary Cemetery in Wichita.

He was born Nov. 3, 1966, to Martina "Tina" Acosta Mayhill and James "Jim" LaBelle at Wichita.

He is survived by: a daughter, Crystal LaBelle of Brenham, Texas; five sons, Joseph of Manhattan, Neil of Ashland, Sean of Ashland and James of Haysville; and Johnathon of Haysville; his father of Marion; grandmother Katherine LaBelle of Marion; grandfather Cirilo "Joe" Acosta of Wichita; step-father Tom Mayhill of Wichita; two sisters and three brothers.

Friends are invited for visitation from 4 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. today with family present from 5 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Rosary will follow at 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Butch LaBelle Fund in care of Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, 222 W. Euclid St., McPherson, KS 67460.

Peter Loewen

Peter F. Loewen, 82, farmer and former employee at Excel in Hesston, died Aug. 11 at Asbury Park in Newton.

The service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church with pastor Steve Schroeder officiating. Burial will be at Springfield Cemetery in rural Hillsboro.

The family will receive guests from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Jost Funeral Home.

He was born Dec. 25, 1923, to Abraham S. and Elizabeth Fast Loewen of rural Hillsboro.

Survivors include a brother, Albert F. Loewen of North Newton; and two sisters, Martha Loewen and Hulda Loewen, both of rural Hillsboro.

Adney Stean

Adney Cornelius Stean, 83, custodian, died Aug. 3 in Hillsboro.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 19, in the chapel of Salem Nursing Home in Hillsboro with pastor Tim Kliewer officiating. Visitation with the family will follow from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs.

He was born Oct. 29, 1922, to Adney Bryant Stean and Iva Theo Kirby in Hillsboro. In 1942, he was married to Alma Lee Worthington, who died in 1995. In 1999, he was married to Elda Riesen, who died in 2004.

Survivors include two sons, Adney Brown Stean of Riverside, Mo., and Larry Stean of Tonganoxie; two daughters, Izzie Klassen of Hillsboro and Wendy Verdict of Bonner Springs; four stepchildren; three brothers, Billy Joe Stean of Olathe and Ronald Stean and LaVern Stean, both of Bonner Springs; a sister, Donnavean Ridnes of Linwood; 26 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established with Salem Nursing Home.
