PARTLY NONSENSE- How hot has it been out there? PDF Print E-mail

Is it hot out there or is it just me?

Depending upon your source for the temperature reading, it was anywhere from 110 to 113 degres Monday in Hillsboro after 107 on Sunday.

Here is my latest idea for economic development. I have always heard that when a house sells, 10 people go to work. Name one person who purchased a house, new or existing, and didn't make changes or additions to it. So just for fun, let's all move.

Let me tell you. The economy would be on fast forward if that were to occur.

--

Just look in the window of the two latest building sales on Main Street. Both have sheetrocking going on inside, and one is getting new doors and carpet and probably more that doesn't meet the eye.

--

OK. You buy this house and then what?

The carpet needs to be replaced or the color of the paint on the inside walls should be blue or eggshell and not gold or the concrete patio would be much nicer if a wood deck were there instead or the big tree right next to the house needs to go because it is pushing against the foundation or the shower curtain is yucky or the countertops are beat up and should be replaced and then while you're at it the sink could use a new one plus the faucet should be updated or the big room in the basement would make a nice family room if it were finished out or the basement is plumbed for a bathroom so why not add that too while you're down there anyway or the sofa at the old house just wouldn't look right in the new spacious living area at the new house or the windows leak air and could use the new energy efficient ones or a water conditioning system would be nice or the old refrigerator can go in the garage for bait or whatever and a new one with ice and water in the door would be perfect or a couple of more outlets in the garage would make it a lot handier to work out there or the grass is quite sparse and brown so a sprinkler system would do the job or some trees and brush needs to be removed and you don't have the chain saw so you go rent one for the day or while you're out in the brush you cut your leg and wind up at the emergency room or the doctor's office or your friends help you move and so you need pizzas and pop to reward them for helping or I could go on forever but did I make my point?

I wonder if you could harvest the blue algae from the reservoir and turn it into ethanol?

--

Did you hear that someone stole all of the toilets at the L.A. police department. They've got nothing to go on.

I had another bout with Dish Network over the weekend. We lost the signal and I couldn't get it back with the usual resetting of the receiver. So reluctantly I called them up and wasn't able to make it work with the first tech person. She told me I needed a new RG59 cable between the switch and the receiver. But if that didn't fix it they would send out a serviceman for free, which usually has a charge associated with it. It didn't work.

The next person wasn't able to fix it either, plus I couldn't understand a word she said. I then fiddled with it again Saturday night and all of a sudden it worked again.

Next time Dish conks out I'll just convert to DirecTV. They'll hook me up for free.
