The engagement and approaching marriage of Carla Dyan Carlson and David William Tharp is announced by their parents, Greg and Linda Carlson and Blair and Nancy Tharp, all of Marion.
She is the granddaughter of Gary and Shirley Carlson of Marion and Bill and Edna Robinson of Florence. He is the grandson of Dalene Tharp and Earl and Louise Wood of Marion.
The bride-to-be is a 2003 graduate of Marion High School and will be a senior at Emporia State University in the fall. She is majoring in elementary education and will be student teaching in the fall in El Dorado. She is employed at Carlsons' Grocery.
The groom-to-be is a 2002 graduate of Marion High School and a graduate of Manhattan Area Vocational-Technical Institute. He is self-employed as a rancher.
The couple plans to be married July 15 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church.
