Marion-Florence/Peabody-Burns dropped a pair of games last Tuesday at Lindsborg against Smoky Valley, 2-1 and 8-4.
In the opener, Marion's Cody Weerts battled the Vikings' Josh Biegert in a pitching duel. The difference proved to be a double by Biegert off Weerts in the first inning.
After Weerts allowed a leadoff single and a walk to start the game, Biegert doubled to left field to score both runners.
Weerts then settled into a groove and dominated the Vikings, allowing no more hits while striking out four.
The Warriors had a golden scoring opportunity in the fourth inning when they loaded the bases, but a poor call by the umpire squelched the threat.
The Warriors whittled the lead to 2-1 in the fifth inning when Clinton Jeffery singled home his brother, Calvin.
But that's all the Warriors managed as Biegert allowed six hits and three walks to pick up the victory.
"Cody had one of his better games of the year and just threw fantastic," coach Shawn Craft said. "We just didn't give him any run support."
In Game 2, starter Calvin Jeffery lasted only two-thirds. He allowed two hits, two walks and three earned runs. Todd Woodruff relieved him and threw the final 51⁄3 innings, giving up three hits and three earned runs while walking two.
Smoky Valley scored three runs in the opening inning, added one in the second and two more in both the fourth and fifth innings.
The Warriors, meanwhile, scored twice in both the second and sixth innings.
Weerts led the Warrior attack with two hits and a pair of runs driven in. Clinton Jeffery had two hits and one RBI.
The Warriors actually out-hit the Vikings, six to five, but six errors contributed to the Warriors' demise.
"We finally started hitting the ball better, but just didn't get the clutch hit when we needed it," Craft said. "Unfortunately, Smoky Valley did get the timely hit. We've been in our games all year, but just haven't been able to get many wins."
With the loss, the Warriors headed into regional play at Marysville with a record of 2-14.

The Warriors' season came to end Monday with a 10-4 loss to in the first round of Class 4A regional play at Marysville.
The home team jumped to a 5-0 lead after one inning. The Warriors closed the gap to 7-4 in the third inning but could not make pull out the win
