MHS musicians receive top marks at two state contests

Marion High School musicians competed well at two state music contests last month.
At the state solo and ensemble festival at Southeast of Saline High School April 29, 10 MHS entries receive a "I" (outstanding) rating.
They were: Bryce Nelson, trombone solo; Michael Brookens, alto saxophone solo; Joel Zeiner, snare drum solo; MHS Singers and vocal soloists Tedra Eis, Luke Bowers, Rachel Davidson, Lucy Collett and Michael Brookens.
Nikki Johnson received a "II" (excellent) on her flute solo.
At the state large-group festival at Ellsworth April 12, MHS groups received the following ratings:
-- MHS Concert Choir received an overall "II" rating based on I, II and II rating from the three adjudicators.
-- MHS Concert Band received a "I" rating overall and from each of the three adjudicators.
This is the 19th consecutive year the band has received the top rating at the state music festival. It is directed by Mike Connell.
