Kip Hawkins

Kirk "Kip" Lane Hawkins, 45, Peabody, branch manager of Future Foam Inc. in Newton, died May 14 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita following a short illness.

The funeral will be held graveside Wednesday, May 15, at 2:30 p.m. at St. George Cemetery in St. George.

He was born Oct. 14, 1960, to Jerold B. and Glenita (Long) Hawkins in Ness City. On July 20, 1996, he married Deborah Reed, who survives.

Survivors also include two sons, Keith Lane Hawkins of Peabody and Jacob Marley and wife Lesley of Towanda; three daughters, Danielle Marley of Towanda, Alaina Marley and Mary-Elizabeth Marley, both of Port Arthur, Texas; his mother, Glenita Hawkins of St. George; a brother, Kirby Hawkins and wife Roxie of St. George; three sisters, Kami Garner and husband Rodger of Wamego, Keena Yambo and husband Angel of St. Mary's; Kendra Reid Etienne and husband Rod of Wamego; one grandson, and nine nieces and nephews.

Memorials can be given the Keith Lane Hawkins Education Fund, in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, P.O. Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.

Lillian Moiser

Lillian Loewen Moiser, 97, Hillsboro native and retired motel manager, died in Wichita April 30.

The funeral service was May 5 at Petersen's Mortuary in Newton with pastor John Bliss of the First Baptist Church of Newton officiating. She was buried in Newton.

She was born Sept. 29, 1908, to George and Emma in Hillsboro.

Preceded in death by two husbands, Clyde McDaniel and Harold Mosier, she is survived by a son, Buddy of Wichita; four sisters, Alvina Hallie of Las Cruces N.M., Erna Bodtke of Van Nuys Calif., Rozella Bowman of Phillipsburg, Betty Wesbrook of Dallas, Texas; and a brother Darryld Lowen of Las Cruces, N.M.

Rosella Penner

Rosella Penner, 90, registered nurse, Moundridge, died May 14 at Moundridge Manor.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Moundridge Funeral Home, with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, at Alexanderfeld Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, in rural Hillsboro, officiated by Charles Johnson, Maynard Koehn and Greg Johnson.

Burial will be Alexanderfeld Church Cemetery, rural Hillsboro.

She was born March 25, 1916, to Isaac Ensz and Elizabeth Toews at Lehigh. On Dec. 1, 1978, she was married to Henry W. Penner, who predeceased her in December 2005.

She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Nellie Penner of Hillsboro; two brothers, Wilbert Ensz of Winton, Calif., and David Ensz of Grant Neb.; five sisters, Alma Penner of Inman, Margaret Reimer of Moundridge, Viola Hiebert of Jamesport, Mo., Mildred Friesen of Grant, Neb., and Gladys Koehn of Okolona, Miss.

A memorial has been established to Moundridge Manor, in care of Moundridge Funeral Home.

Memorial planned for Henry Schubert

A memorial service for Henry Schubert is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ramona.

He died in Greeley, Colo., Sept. 19, 2005, where he and his wife, Gertrude Hicks Schubert, had moved the year before to be near their children.

Born in Ramona in 1914, Schubert lived all but 18 months of his life in that town of 100.

Pastor Eugene Hicks of Herington, cousin to Gertrude Schubert, will officiate the service, with family members contributing.

Following the service, friends and family are invited to gather at the Lutheran Parish Hall next door for refreshments.

If her health permits, Gertie Schubert plans to be back in Ramona for the service. It will be the first time she has returned to Ramona since 2004.

The Schubert's sons, Gary and Keith, are bringing their father's cremated remains back to Kansas soil, where, in a private family ceremony May 27, part of the ashes will be interned at Lewis Cemetery as well as other sites selected by their mother.

Memorial funds have purchased a new sign that is being erected at the entrance to Ramona noting it as a centennial city and recognizing Schubert, who was the centennial president in 1987.

George 'Jack' Spain

George Raymond "Jack" Spain, 93, retired farmer and rancher, died May 13 in Marion.

The funeral is planned for today, Wednesday, at Eastmoor United Methodist Church with Pastor Robert Priest officiating.

Burial will be at Homestead Cemetery, rural Cedar Point.

He was born Dec. 15, 1912, to Ann Hensley Spain of the Wonsevu community. On Dec. 26, 1934, he was married to Elizabeth "Bessie" Mercer, who died April 2, 1978. On July 9, 1978, he was married to Hope Patton Koch, who died April 14, 2006.

He is survived by step-daughters LuJean Krause of Emporia, Loma and husband Don Frederick of Hutchinson, Glenda and husband Jack Taylor of Marion, and Marilyn and husband Max Blanding of Wichita; a sister, Marjorie and husband Roy Morgan of Strong City, and brother-in-law Bob Kirk of Houston; 12 step-grandchildren, 32 step-great-grandchildren and 14 step-great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with Homestead Cemetery Improvement Fund and St. Luke's Foundation. Contributions can be made through Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.

Kathryn L. Willems

Kathryn L. Willems, 98, missionary translator, died May 9 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.

The funeral was May 13 at Hillsboro United Methodist Church, with pastor Dave Plett officiating. Burial was at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 16, 1907, to Peter D. and Lena Block Willems in Reno County.

She is survived by two sisters, Martha Willems and Lydia Willems, both of Hillsboro.

Memorials have been established with Parkside Homes, Hillsboro M.B. Church building fund and MBMISI.
