The Marion golf team continued to build late-season momentum last Tuesday with an impressive showing in its own Marion Invitational.

Behind the individual championship of Jason Hett, who shot a 72, the Warriors scored 316 to easily outdistance second-place Herington at 354. Marion beat it previous season-best score by 10 strokes.

"I was obviously pleased-that's an awfully good score," coach Rex Ostmeyer said. "I thought we would play well on our home course, but 316 on a pretty windy day is solid."

Joining Hett with top-10 finishes were Keith Jones (77) in third, Luke Gordon (82) in fifth and Jake Bredemeier (85) at seventh.

"Travis continues to play great-he just doesn't throw away shots, and if he does, he seems to come back and make up for it later," Ostmeyer said.

"Keith was great today, by far his best competitive round ever; he played very, very smart today.

"Luke had a couple of bad holes on the back side that kept him from a really great score but he did well" he added.

"And Jake is capable of better, but he battled the entire day and kept it together for the most part."

Also competing for the Warriors were Chase Carlson (89) and Paul Hodson (103).

"Chase played well considering a difficult pairing situation," Ostmeyer said. "All in all we had a very good day and we just need to finish strong down the stretch."
