Rain washed out the Sacred Heart Invitational Golf Tournament in Salina on Friday, but the Hillsboro High School team did compete in two other meets over the past two weeks.
On Tuesday, April 25, the Trojans placed third at the nine-team Bennington Invitational.
As a team, Hillsboro finished with 335 points, actually trying Clay Center for the second-best score. Hutch Trinity captured the title at 310.
Andrew Bina led the Trojan effort with a fourth-place individual finish, shooting a 79 over 18 holes. He was nine strokes behind the winner, Alex Wasinger of Hutch Trinity.
Elliot Soyez placed sixth at 80 and Justin Kent was eighth with an 83. Also competing for Hillsboro were Darren Enns (93), Zach Magnuson (108) and Daniel Miller (129).
On April 21, Hillsboro competed in a very tough Wichita Collegiate Invitational and placed 10th among 12 teams. The Trojans combined for a team score of 348 to finish 41 strokes behind the championship team from Andover.
No Trojans managed to win a medal by placing in the top 10. Soyez led the team with a 79, good for an 11th-place tie, and Bina tied for 14th at 80.
Justin Kent shot an 82 and Darren Enns a 107.
"This is by far the most competitive tournament we attend all year," coach Scott O'Hare said. "There are always a number of traditionally strong golfing schools there and typically scores are very low, as was the case again this year."
"Elliot and Andrew both had decent rounds. Both felt they had a number of opportunities to lower their scores that they were just not able to capitalize on.
"Justin played the front nine holes pretty solid, but struggled on a couple of holes on the back side. He had been striking the ball very well lately and was disappointed not to play better here."
Coming-The Trojans were scheduled to play at Hesston and Marion on Tuesday, then will co-host the Marion County Invitational with Marion on Friday. Participating teams will play 18 holes on both courses during the day.
The following Monday, Hillsboro and Marion will compete in the MCAA league tournament at Ellinwood.
