The commissioners will give the matter further consideration at its Friday payday meeting.

After announcing earlier in the meeting his resignation as the county's planning and zoning director, environmental health officer, and transfer station director, David Brazil presented, and the commissioners passed 3-0, a resolution that would allow the county zoning administrator to grant approval for a rural residential acreage partially in a flood plain if a portion of it outside the plain is sufficiently large for sewage and water development.

The commissioners accepted a bid of $1,995 from Professional Cleaning Services of Hillsboro for a power washer at the transfer station over a bid of $1,795 for a cleaner of lesser power from the same company and a higher powered washer for $2,800 from Seacat Hardware.

The commissioners went into executive session with a former transfer station employee, Linda Johnson, to discuss matters that involved personnel.

Afterward, Commission Chairman Dan Holub said oversights brought up by Johnson that would be corrected included the name of a deceased representative, Jack Regnier, submitted for Marion County on regional solid waste planning to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, the absence of any input from Marion County on the regional solid waste plan also submitted to KDHE, and the failure of Marion County on the same report to state that some of its waste had come from Chase County with Cedar Point trash collected by the City of Florence.

The commissioners authorized Holub to sign for acceptance on a $5,353 grant through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for local pandemic influenza outbreak planning to be completed in August.

Noreen Weems, director of the department for the elderly, reported the Florentine Seniors will receive help from the Florence City Council to repair their senior center restrooms. The men's room will be upgraded to handicapped accessible.

The commissioners authorized Holub to sign a new coummunity corrections plan presented handed to them by Randy Krueger.

County Clerk Carol Maggard told commissioners she is investigating with banks to get a credit card policy and plan that will serve all department heads. She said it has become difficult for county officers to make such things as motel reservations without a credit card.

The commissioners agreed to a public hearing at 7 p.m. May 26 in the courtroom for county department heads to tell how their budgets are formed.

Holub called for a discussion at payday meeting Friday with County Attorney Susan Robson on whether tax sale properties that don't bring minimum bids to meet obligations on them could be given to cities in the county instead to be given by them free to members of the public who would build on them.

He noted that at least one property on the list appeared to have been bought by a speculator at the last tax sale, and left with taxes unpaid when that person failed to find a buyer at a profit. Holub said such actions circumvent intentions of tax sales to find bona fide tax payers to own property.

Cardie Oil of Tampa was awarded a bid of $21,560 for road and bridge transport fuel over a competitive bid of $21,796 from Cooperative Grain of Hillsboro.

Cardie bid $2.583 a gallon for 4,500 gallons of diesel in tank three for $11,623.50, $2.326 a gallon for 1,500 gallons of diesel in tank one for $3,489, and $2.579 for 2,500 gallons of unleaded gasoline for $6,447.50.

The same per gallon bids and totals respectively from the co-op were $2.605 for $11,722.50, $2.349 for $3,523.50, and $2.62 for $6,550.
