The Tabor College tennis teams came home from North Newton on Thursday with a pair of impressive wins against Bethel. The men and women defeated the Threshers by identical 6-3 scores.
In men's singles, Michael Hagen lost to Drew Pippin 1-6, 4-6; Aaron Friesen lost to Dustin Gudde 3-6, 1-6; Jason Reiswig beat Mark Saner 6-1, 7-5; Chad Gayer defeated Chad Stucky 6-4, 6-1; Andrew Braun beat Tyler Doerksen 6-2, 6-3; and Shane Miller defeated Rob Caswell 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles, Hagen and Reiswig lost to Pippin and Gudde 5-8; Miller and Friesen beat Saner and Stucky 8-4; and Adrian and Gayer beat Doerksen and Caswell 8-1.
"The men all but locked up the No. 3 seed for the KCAC tournament," coach Lonnie Isaac said. "This will put them in a re-match situation with Friends."
In women's singles, Laurel Delamater lost to Katrina Brodhagen 1-6, 2-6; Ashlee Helmley defeated Amy Castle 6-0, 6-3; Danni Brucks beat Katie Robertson 8-3; Jennifer Proffitt beat Jodi Enz 6-0, 6-1; Erin Wiebe lost to Shelly Wedel 7-6, 4-6, 5-7; and Erica Hemmert lost to Shannon Wanna 5-7, 2-6.
In doubles, Delamater and Helmley beat Brodhagen and Castle 8-5; Brucks and Proffitt defeated Enz and Wedel 8-4; and Wiebe and Hemmert beat Robertson and Wanna 8-3.
"With this win, the women can control their own destiny in terms of getting a first-round bye and No. 2 seed in the KCAC tournament," Isaac said. "These were two very important victories for our teams."
Kansas Wesleyan-Tabor hosting a short-handed Kansas Wesleyan women's team on Ruersday while the men had an easy time with the Coyotes.
The Tabor defeated the five-player Coyotes 5-0.
In singles, Laura Delamater's match with Jayme Cahoon was unfinished while Ashlee Helmley, Danni Brucks and Jennifer Proffitt didn't take the court.
In other action, Erin Wiebe defeated Jaci Davis 6-2, 6-2, while Erica Hemmert won by default.
Delamater and Helmley defeated Crittendon and Carney in doubles play 8-1 while Brucks and Proffitt downed Cahoon and Parke 8-4. Wiebe and Hemmert won by default.
The Tabor men prevailed 9-0.
In singles, Michael Hagen beat Jose Suarez 6-1, 6-1; Aaron Friesen defeated Brad Vanover 8-0; Jason Reiswig beat Antjuan Boldin 8-4; Chad Gayer downed Keith Ferguson 8-1; Andrew Braun defeated Aaron Angst 6-1, 6-4; and Shane Miller beat Andy Frisbie 8-1.
In doubles, Hagen and Reiswig defeated Ferguson and Vanover 8-5; Friesen and Miller downed Bouldin and Suarez 8-1; and Adrian and Gayer beat Angst and Frisbie 8-1.
Bethany- In what coach Lonnie Isaac described as "our worst effort of the year," Tabor lost to Bethany College 9-0.
In singles, Laurel Delamater lost to Tori Everhart 7-5, 2-6, 1-6; Ashlee Helmley lost to Michelle Hinman 0-6, 4-6; Danni Brucks was defeated by Beth Prier 6-4, 3-6, 5-7; Jennifer Proffitt was beaten by Angie Morgan 5-7, 1-6; Erin Wiebe lost to Shanda Kilian 1-6, 1-6; and Erica Hemmert lost to Anna Feyerherm 2-8.
In doubles play, Delamater and Helmley lost to Everhart and Hinman 2-8; Brucks and Proffitt lost to Prier and Mannebach 4-8; and Wiebe and Hemmert fell to Kilian and Feyerherm 4-8.
The Tabor men were overpowered, 8-1.
In singles, Michael Hagen lost to Collin Torrence 0-6, 0-6; Aaron Friesen lost to Jon Feyerherm 1-6, 2-6; Jason Reiswig lost to Trevor Welsh 3-6, 0-6; Chad Gayer lost to Brandon Ewerts 1-6, 2-6; Andrew Braun was defeated by Brad Beitau 3-8; and Shane Miller lost to Noah Lindfors 3-8.
Picking up Tabor's lone win was the doubles team of Hagen and Reiswig, who defeated Ewerts and Feyerherm 9-7.
In other doubles play, Miller and Friesen lost to Welsh and Bietau 3-8 and Braun and Gayer was defeated by Linfors and Torrence 7-9.
