If you believe one or two people can't make much of a difference in the world, read this week's issue more closely. Sure, it's hard to for a handful of people to right an injustice or make a positive and lasting change. But if your aim is to cause harm, you'd be amazed how much power you have.
Hillsboro city leaders tell us that one, two, maybe three young people are damaging not only the local park but also the prospects of new programs and equipment for their peers through costly acts of vandalism.
An elected official apparently loses his job because a few customers threaten to pull their business from his place of employment unless he recants some of his stands on land-use in the county. Forget the ballot box, forget persuasion and reason. Let's work for political change through personal intimidation and extortion.
To this list you could add other examples of people who wield negative power far beyond their numbers. If you know such a person, ask him or her to cease and desist. It's the right thing to do. -DR
