Warren Hughes

Warren Walton Hughes, 83, retired transportation engineer, died March 31 in Peabody.

The funeral service was held 11 a.m. Monday, April 3, at Prairie Lawn Cemetery with pastor Jim Pohlman officiating.

He was born Feb. 3, 1923, to Alvin Hughes and Orbay Chaney near Manchester, Okla. On Sept. 5, 1942, he was married to Letha Thornton, who survives.

He is also survived by three sons, Warren and wife Juanita of Emporia, Jack and wife Chris of Palmer, Alaska, and Marc and wife Lynn of Carney, Okla.; a daughter, Carolyn and husband Ron Anderson of Peabody; a brother, Larson of Tulsa, Okla; sisters Ruby Broce of Peabody, Bernice Kauffman of Pretty Prairie, Doris Garney of Grand Prairie, Mo., and Norma Reid of Anthony; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.

Vera M. Koehn

Vera M. Koehn, 78, homemaker, died April 9 at Kansas Christian Home in Newton.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, April 12 at 1 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Newton, with pastor Richard Andrus officiating. Following the service, burial will be at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in Newton.

Visitation was Tuesday, April 11, at Miller Funeral Home in Goessel and will be from 11 a.m. to service time at the church.

She was born March 14, 1928, to Herman H. and Mathilda A. (Schroeder) Hoyer in McPherson.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Koehn, of Newton; a son, Charles Scott Carl of Newton; and two brothers, Merl Hoyer of Newton and Charles and wife Julie Hoyer of rural Canton.

A memorial has been established with Zion Lutheran Church, in care of Miller Funeral Home.

Roger Morse

Roger Herbert Morse, 91, retired attorney, died April 3 at St. Luke Living Center in Marion.

The funeral services was at 10 a.m., April 6, at First Presbyterian Church, Marion.

He was born Jan. 3, 1915, to Frank Lemmuel Morse and Anna Beaston Morse. On June 30, 1940, he was married to Marie Jeannette Stover, who survives.

He is also survived by a daughter Jean Marie and husband Jim Slater of Guffey, Colo., a son Richard Roger and wife Nathela of Springfield, Ill., six grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Memorials have been established with Marion Library, Marion Historical Museum and First Presbyterian Church.

Emil Thiessen

Emil Thiessen, 90, retired college professor, died April 8 at Hillsboro.

A graveside service was planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, at the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Cemetery with pastor Bruce Porter officiating.

He was born June 24, 1915, to Jacob and Mary Adrian Thiessen at Buhler. On Aug. 20, 1944, he was married to Gladys Derstine, who predeceased him in 2003.

He is survived by a son, Lonnie and wife Barbara of Wichita, a daughter Jonelle and husband Steve Barkyoumb of Madison, Wis., seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial fund has been established with Tabor College.
